New World Screwworm: check wounds before hauling
USDA continues responding to confirmed detections in the United States. Inspect wounds, healing procedure sites, newborn foal navels, tack rubs, body openings, and areas drawing concentrated fly activity.
Moving larvae, foul odor, rapid tissue loss, unusual drainage, marked pain, or a rapidly enlarging wound require immediate veterinary and animal-health reporting. Do not haul a horse with an unexplained suspicious wound until a veterinarian or animal-health official advises on movement.
