Kaitlyn Schmuck of Misfit Rodeo, our July 2026 Real Rider of the Month.

The short version

Kaitlyn Schmuck has spent 20 years riding and caring for horses. Her life with them moves between rodeo, trail riding and practical day work, with her horses living out on pasture in Wyoming.

Her go-to Draw It Out® product is EQUINE | DEFENDER™ K Tape. Kaitlyn uses it during both summer and winter as part of the routine she has built around her barrel horse.

Meet Kaitlyn

At Misfit Rodeo, horses are not kept in a polished little bubble. They are worked a few days each week, then turned back out across 100 acres. That balance of purposeful work and room to move says a great deal about Kaitlyn’s approach.

She pays attention to what the horse in front of her is telling her, adjusts with the Wyoming seasons, and keeps the routine practical enough to survive real barn life.

Indie and LJ

Indie

A 7-year-old Quarter Horse and Kaitlyn’s barrel horse.

LJ

A 21-year-old Quarter Horse with the experience that comes from years under good care.

Two Quarter Horses at very different stages of life require observation, consistency and a willingness to change the routine when the horse changes. Kaitlyn brings that steady attention to both.

“K Tape has helped my barrel horse’s hind-end muscles not get so tight.”Kaitlyn Schmuck

Why K Tape earned its place

Kaitlyn first discovered Draw It Out® through TikTok and through prizes offered by WBRT. EQUINE | DEFENDER™ K Tape became the product that stayed in her routine.

She uses it year-round and has recommended it to other horse people, including someone caring for a roping horse. Her experience is personal, but the reason it matters is universal: she found a tool that fit the way she already watches, works and cares for her horses.

K Tape should be applied with appropriate equine taping knowledge and is not a substitute for veterinary care, professional bodywork, saddle-fit evaluation or diagnosis.

A Wyoming routine that changes with the season

Hot summers call for cooling blankets. Winter brings different demands, but Kaitlyn’s K Tape remains part of the routine in both seasons. The horses work several days each week and otherwise have the freedom to move across their pasture.

That is not a complicated system. It is a consistent one, and consistency is often what separates a product that gets tried once from a product that earns a permanent place in the barn.

The trail worth the drive

One of Kaitlyn’s favorite places to ride is Sinks Canyon, about two hours from home. The trail opens into a meadow, with the option to stop and make the walk down to a natural waterslide.

It sounds like Wyoming should: big country, a good horse, and a destination worth earning one mile at a time.

More than the next run

Kaitlyn supports the Colorado Horse Rescue Network, extending her care beyond the horses in her own pasture. That same community spirit shows up when she recommends a product or shares something that has helped in her routine.

Why Kaitlyn is our July Real Rider

No performance for the camera. No follower requirement. Just 20 years of horse care, two good Quarter Horses, a Wyoming pasture and a rider willing to share what has earned its place in her barn.

That is what Real Riders. Real Stories. was built to recognize.

Build your routine around the horse in front of you

Kaitlyn’s story starts with observation, consistent work and the space for her horses to move. The product supports the routine. It never replaces the horsemanship.
