Real Rider Resource horse care blog by Draw It Out

Keep this short checklist where you tack up. Its purpose is to help you respond calmly when your horse’s usual way of going changes.

1. Pause the session

Do not force a frame or push through a new, repeated hollowing or bracing response. Stop if the horse appears uncomfortable or moves unevenly.

2. Make a safe visual check

Check for an obvious displaced pad, twisted equipment, or another visible tack problem without putting yourself at risk. Fixing an obvious issue does not establish that the horse is comfortable to continue.

3. Record the moment

Note when the change began, what you were asking, and any recent tack or workload change. You do not need to reproduce the response or finish the ride to make a useful note.

4. Choose the next step

Contact your veterinarian for marked, persistent, or unexplained changes. Discuss tack fit and training review as part of the plan. A product response cannot tell you why the horse hollowed.
