Horse Leg Swelling Guide

Horse Leg Swelling: When to Worry

Swelling is a signal, not a diagnosis. A filled leg after stall rest is different from one hot, painful, swollen leg with lameness.

Call the vet when you see

  • One-leg swelling with heat or pain.
  • Lameness, fever, wound, or drainage.
  • Sudden swelling after hard work or trauma.
  • Swelling that does not improve with appropriate care.

Support routine

Use topical support only on clean, intact skin and only where it fits the care plan. When in doubt, get veterinary guidance before wrapping, working, or treating aggressively.
