Filled hind legs after standing at a show are common enough to notice and important enough to check. Travel, stall time, heat, limited movement, bedding, wraps, and workload can all affect lower legs.
If your horse’s hind legs fill after standing at a show, check symmetry, heat, pain, lameness, wounds, wrap marks, hydration, movement, and whether filling improves with walking. Call your veterinarian for one-sided swelling, heat, pain, fever, lameness, wounds, or swelling that does not improve.
Hand walk if safe. Recheck after movement. Record heat, work, stall time, water, and whether wraps were used. Do not ride hard through swelling that has not been understood.
Use the Horse Health Library for show recovery routines and What Does My Horse Need? when sorting leg, travel, or stiffness concerns. For appropriate external support, review the horse liniment collection.
Stall time, hauling, heat, limited movement, wraps, and workload can all contribute.
