What Makes a Veterinary Liniment Different? A Practical Guide for Horse Owners
Not all horse liniments are built for the same job. This guide explains what makes a veterinary liniment different and how professionals ...
A rider-tested braiding routine that helps braids hold longer without greasy residue. Root control first, then clean grip through the length.
If your braids look great in the aisle and fall apart after one ride, it is usually a texture problem, not a skill problem. This method fixes texture without turning hair oily or crunchy.

This is a simple split-duty approach. Roots need softness and control so you can section clean without breakage. The mid-lengths and ends need grip so braids hold their shape. Instead of trying to make one product do both jobs, you assign one job to each.
Use ShowBarn Secret® Skin and Hair Enhancer at the base to support softness, slip, and calmer sections without a heavy feel.
Light mist ShowBarn Secret® Braiding Spray through the length for controlled tack and tidy braids that still comb out clean.
Small layers beat heavy application. If a braiding spray ever feels wrong, it is usually too much product, too close, or too wet in one spot.
I love the braiding spray. I put the hair enhancer on the root and then use the spray on the body of the hair to braid. They stay longer and it is not greasy, so the braiding tape sticks and holds well. I am able to keep braids in for a week at home and if I am at a barrel race I do not have to do fresh braids each day I run. They still look ok if there is a photographer. When they are turned out with braids, dirt does not just stick to it like some other products. Really enjoy using it.

Want a broader routine for keeping horses comfortable and consistent week to week? The Prehabilitation page is the clean starting point.
Too much oil at the base is the usual culprit. Use less Enhancer, keep it at the root only, then let Braiding Spray handle the grip.
You are likely over-misting or spraying too close. Back up, mist lightly, comb once, then braid.
Micro-mist Braiding Spray onto your palm, then press and smooth. Avoid soaking the braid.
Check tension and section size first. Then make sure the length gets Spray, not just the top layer.
If you want the simplest setup, start with these two and keep the application light. For more grooming routines, browse the full ShowBarn Secret® grooming collection.
If your horse is in a heavier work cycle, pair grooming consistency with a comfort routine. Start at Prehabilitation.
Yes, when you keep the Enhancer at the root and use it lightly. Then use Braiding Spray through the length to add grip without an oily finish.
Many riders keep braids in several days with minor touch-ups. Your climate, turnout, and hair type matter, but this method is built for longer hold without heavy buildup.
Braiding Spray is designed to comb out clean after use. If you are doing multiple days, light refreshes are usually enough.

The best proof of a mane routine is the brush out. If it releases clean, you did it right.
