Horse Stiffness & Recovery Help

Start here when your horse feels tight after work, travel, standing, training, weather swings, or long days. The job is to decide whether this is routine support, a hoof/skin issue, a tack issue, or a professional-care problem.

Quick answer: Gel fits targeted daily support. Concentrate fits broader barn routines. MASTERMUDD™ fits heavier clay-brace style days. But lameness, heat, swelling, hoof pain, wounds, fever, or sudden behavior change comes first.

Stop and get help first

  • Lameness, strong pain response, sudden swelling, heat, wounds, hoof heat, strong digital pulse, weakness, neurologic signs, fever, or worsening symptoms.

Choose the recovery lane

After travel

Check leg fill, feet, digital pulse, shipping rubs, and how the horse steps out. Use the trailering guide.

After hard work

Cool down, check legs, feet, back, shoulders, tack areas, and next-morning movement.

After standing

Stocked-up legs may improve with ordinary movement, but one-sided, hot, painful, or worsening fill is different.

When movement or behavior suddenly changes

Treat the change as information, not a diagnosis. Head bobbing, a hip hike, gait breaking, four-beating, a shorter stride, reluctance to go forward, a higher head, or sudden resistance can come from feet, tack, workload, soreness, balance, training, or a medical problem.

Check the horse

Look for symmetry, heat, swelling, hoof sensitivity, digital pulse, wounds, breathing changes, weakness, or a stronger pain response.

Check the setup

Review recent farrier work, footing, saddle and pad fit, workload changes, hauling, warm-up, cooldown, and recovery time.

Choose the right route

Use the hind-end drive and reach guide for gait and push concerns, or the leg swelling guide for windpuffs, fill, heat, or one-sided swelling.

Do not use liniment to make an unexplained gait change safe to ride. Stop and contact a veterinarian or farrier when the change is sudden, painful, one-sided, worsening, recurrent, or paired with heat, swelling, hoof pain, weakness, or neurologic-looking movement.
