Heat rash under tack can come from sweat, friction, dirty pads, poor airflow, sensitive skin, or gear that traps moisture against the horse. Small bumps can become a bigger problem if the same tack goes right back on.
If your horse has a heat rash under tack, check saddle pad cleanliness, girth path, shoulders, back, chest, hair direction, sweat buildup, bumps, heat, swelling, and sensitivity. Rest the area from friction and call your veterinarian for painful, open, oozing, spreading, swollen, or persistent skin irritation.
Tack holds heat and sweat against skin. Dirt and dried salt turn into grit. Pads and girths that are not cleaned often enough can restart irritation every ride.
Clean the tack contact points. Let the skin dry. Avoid riding over angry skin. Wash pads and girths regularly. If the rash repeats, check fit, hygiene, and whether the horse needs veterinary care.
Use the Horse Health Library to learn skin and tack routines. Use What Does My Horse Need? to sort skin-care concerns.

No. Rest the area from friction and call your veterinarian for painful, open, spreading, or persistent irritation.
