Horse Cool-Down Routine: Fast Post-Ride Recovery + Wrap Use
Horse Cool-Down Routine: Fast Post-Ride Recovery + Wrap Use

Fast Cool-Down + Under-Wraps

A good cool-down is fast, repeatable, and based on what the leg actually needs, not what looks busy.

This follows the haul-day hydration plan and keeps recovery from slipping.

The 10-minute sequence

  1. Walk
  2. Check legs
  3. Cool if needed
  4. Dry fully
  5. Apply liniment gel lightly
  6. Wrap only if appropriate

When wraps help

  • Routine use horse already knows
  • Light support overnight

When wraps hurt

  • Heat trapped
  • Legs damp
  • Rushed application

Checklist

  • Walk first
  • Check legs individually
  • Cool only where needed
  • Dry completely

Founder’s Note · Jon Conklin

I write about these topics because they come directly from conversations with real riders. The goal is clarity, fewer assumptions, and better outcomes for the horse.
