Horse Recovery 360: From Ride to Rest with Liniment, Hydration & Wraps

Recovery is performance insurance. Keep it clean, repeatable, and logged.

Routine builds results — every ride, every time.

Why Recovery Matters

A consistent post-ride routine minimizes soreness, speeds adaptation, and protects joints. It’s where resilience is built. The best riders treat recovery as part of training, not the afterthought.

Use this framework daily. Adjust intensity based on workload, temperature, and your horse’s response. Document what works — the data lives in your tack trunk.

Step-by-Step Recovery Protocol

Cooldown Walk

10–15 minutes on a loose rein until breathing and pulse normalize. Walk until sweat marks fade from high-heat zones.

Rinse & Dry

Hose or sponge key heat areas: neck, chest, girth, and hindquarters. Scrape or towel excess water. Always check legs for heat or swelling before applying anything.

Apply Liniment

Use a thin, even layer of Draw It Out® 16 oz Gel. Massage 2–3 minutes into large muscle groups for better circulation. Safe under wraps once dry.

Hydration & Electrolytes

Provide cool, clean water. After heavy sweat, supplement with electrolytes to restore minerals and prevent fatigue.

Wraps (If Needed)

Only wrap clean, dry legs. Use even tension, avoiding bunching or excess product beneath. Standing wraps should support—not compress.

Recheck & Rest

After 60–90 minutes, reassess temperature, pulse, and demeanor. Note any swelling or stiffness before turning out or stalling.

Hydration Strategy

Hydration starts before you saddle up. Encourage water intake early in the day, especially during travel or hot conditions. Post-ride, monitor drinking behavior and consider adding electrolyte support to feed or water for 24 hours following strenuous work.

Wraps Done Right

Improper wrapping can do more harm than good. Always use clean bandages and padding. Even pressure, correct direction (inside → out), and flat lay ensure circulation stays healthy. Never wrap over damp skin or excessive product.

FAQ

Why use sensation-free liniment?

Sensation-free products like Draw It Out® prevent skin irritation and avoid menthol or capsaicin concerns while still supporting deep tissue recovery.

How soon should I wrap after applying liniment?

Let it absorb fully first — usually 5–10 minutes. The surface should be dry to the touch before wrapping.

Do I need electrolytes every ride?

No. Use them when heavy sweat, long hauls, or high temps are involved. Balance is the key.
