Draw It Out® — Heat-Smart, Show-Ready

Hot Weather Horse Care

Hydrate simple. Cool smart. Travel calm. Here’s a tight, repeatable plan for hot days that keeps horses drinking, keeps gear secure, and keeps your program rolling.

Be your horse’s hero. We’ll help you do it.

Quick rule: Water always on • Electrolytes measured • Shade/airflow prioritized • Cool → scrape → repeat • Thin gel → absorb → gear on.
Timing

Plan the Day

  • Ride as early/late as possible; shorten sets and increase walk breaks.
  • Stage buckets in shade; add a second bucket for electrolyte mix.
  • Fans/misters where allowed; never box a hot horse in a stagnant stall.
Hydration

Hydro-Lyte® Setup

  • Mix per label. Use when heat, humidity, sweat, or hauling increase demand.
  • Always provide plain water beside any mix so horses can choose.
  • Flavor a light mash post-ride if your horse drinks better that way.
Pre-Ride

Prime & Check

  • Offer water before tacking; add Hydro-Lyte® per label if warranted.
  • Quick scan for heat/fill; confirm pad/girth are clean and dry.
During

Work Smart

  • Short sets, bigger walk windows; use shade/breeze lanes.
  • Watch ears/eye brightness, breathing rate, gum moisture.
Post-Ride

Cool & Rehydrate

  • Walk down → hose/sponging with cool water → scrape between passes.
  • Re-offer water + a measured electrolyte mix; top off at 20–30 min.
  • Cold therapy for legs: 10–20 minutes total in 1–2 cycles.
Recovery

Gel & Wraps (If Used)

  1. Thin layer of Draw It Out® gel on worked zones.
  2. Allow full absorption; wipe excess near saddle/girth contact.
  3. Wraps: intact skin, even tension, recheck heat/tension at 15–30 minutes.

Pair with the Recovery Loop for a consistent post-ride routine.

Travel

Hauling in the Heat

  • Pre-load: water access; Hydro-Lyte® per program; ship boots/wraps on clean, dry legs.
  • Stops: offer water; check wrap heat/slip; vent the trailer safely.
  • Arrival: walk out; re-offer water/mix; thin post-haul gel as needed.
Heat stress signs: rapid breathing or panting, dullness, unwillingness to work, dry gums, prolonged recovery, very dark urine, refusal to drink. Stand down and call your veterinarian.

FAQ

Best order: hydrate vs. cooling?

Walk down → start cooling (hose/sponge + scrape) → offer water immediately → add Hydro-Lyte® per label → repeat cool/scrape as needed.

Can I add gel before riding in heat?

Keep pre-ride routines minimal in high heat. Most riders save gel for post-ride after cooling; if you do use it pre-ride, keep application thin and away from high-friction tack contact.

Fans at the show?

Use only where permitted and safely installed. Aim for shade + airflow; avoid trapping a hot horse in stagnant air without water.

Hydrate simple. Cool smart. Recover steady.

Make a heat plan your team can run every time—no sting, no smell, wrap-friendly once absorbed.
