Meet Jenna and her two Quarter Horses

Jenna Riga rides and trains out of Higher Ground Stables in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania. When she submitted her story in May 2025, she had spent 18 years riding and caring for horses, with barrel racing and training at the center of her program.

Her two AQHA horses bring different strengths to that life. Ruger, eight at the time of her submission, is full of personality. Mojo, 16, is her partner for trail riding and leisure time.

A partnership built on trust

One memory of Ruger stands out. Jenna described a moment when a colt charged toward her, kicking. Ruger stepped between them. For Jenna, that moment captured the connection and trust she had built with him.

It is the kind of story that stays with a rider long after the day is over. Behind the training and competition is a horse she knows and loves.

Care at home and away
