Travel recovery routine

Horse Sore After Trailering

Short answer: after trailering, check legs, back, shoulders, hydration, sweat, attitude, and movement before choosing a recovery product. Hauling can make a horse brace, stand unevenly, sweat, or stock up.

Why horses can feel off after hauling

Trailering asks a horse to balance through turns, starts, stops, heat, vibration, and time standing still. Some horses step off tight, tired, stocked up, or body sore. That does not mean panic. It means check the horse before assuming.

Post-haul check

Look at the horse

  • Movement when unloaded and after walking.
  • Leg filling, heat, cuts, rubs, or boot marks.
  • Back, shoulders, hips, and neck tension.
  • Hydration, manure, appetite, attitude, and sweat pattern.

Red flags

  • Severe lameness or reluctance to move.
  • Major swelling, heat, pain, or distress.
  • Colic-like behavior, fever, or abnormal breathing.
  • Worsening condition after rest and normal care.

Product fit after hauling

Use Draw It Out® RTU Spray when speed matters after unloading. Use 16oz Liniment Gel when targeted hands-on placement matters. For multi-horse hauling, 64oz Gel or 128oz Concentrate may fit better.

Simple post-travel routine

  1. Unload safely and let the horse settle.
  2. Walk quietly and watch movement.
  3. Check legs, body, hydration, sweat, and attitude.
  4. Clean the target area before applying product.
  5. Use the right product for the job and recheck later.
