Cold-weather routine

Cold-Weather Rider and Horse Recovery Routine

Winter asks more from both sides of the lead rope. Horses need a longer warm-up, cleaner post-work checks, and dry skin and hooves. Riders need movement, hydration, warm hands, and a routine that does not begin only after the body locks up.

Fast answer: add time before intensity, keep the horse moving before and after work, check legs and feet once the coat is dry, and close the barn for the rider too. Draw It Out® stays in the horse-care lane. ReJüv™ stays in the human-care lane.

Before the ride

Horse

  • Walk longer before asking for collection, speed, deep turns, or harder lateral work.
  • Check footing, shoes, pads, hoof packing, and snowball buildup.
  • Feel legs before exercise so you know what changed afterward.
  • Use horse-labeled products only according to the label.

Rider

  • Warm hands, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles before mounting.
  • Drink water even when cold weather hides thirst.
  • Use ReJüv™ only on clean, dry, intact human skin and let it dry before clothing or braces.
  • Do not use a topical sensation as proof that an injury is ready to work.

During the ride

Cold muscles and cold footing punish impatience. Build intensity gradually, use more walk breaks, and pay attention to a horse that changes stride, becomes reluctant, shortens behind, trips, or stops wanting to turn one direction. Winter stiffness should not be used as a blanket explanation for every change.

After the ride

  1. Walk until respiration and body temperature are settling.
  2. Remove sweat and wet hair from tack areas.
  3. Dry the legs before applying a topical or covering them.
  4. Compare both sides for heat, swelling, tenderness, and filling.
  5. Pick and dry the feet; check heels, frogs, soles, and shoeing.
  6. Use Draw It Out® Liniment Gel according to the horse label when routine post-work support is appropriate.
  7. Use ReJüv™ for the rider—not the horse product.

Cold-weather product lanes

Horse body support

Draw It Out® Liniment is the horse-care lane for normal post-work and daily routines.

Human topical routine

ReJüv™ is the menthol-free and capsaicin-free human topical wellness line.

Tough-work horse routine

MasterMudd™ belongs in targeted horse-care routines when the label and situation fit.

Hoof routine

Horse hoof care starts with picking, cleaning, drying, and identifying whether the concern belongs with a farrier or veterinarian.

Winter rider self-care

The rider often gets skipped because the horse is the priority. Close the barn for yourself with water, food, dry clothes, movement before the drive home, and enough sleep to show up useful tomorrow.

When winter stiffness needs professional attention

Call a veterinarian for sudden or severe lameness, one-sided heat or swelling, a bounding digital pulse, reluctance to move, repeated tripping, neurologic signs, fever, wounds, or rapid deterioration. Riders should seek medical care for major trauma, deformity, inability to bear weight, spreading numbness, new weakness, chest pain, breathing trouble, or severe and worsening pain.

Frequently asked questions

Should horses warm up longer in cold weather?

Usually, yes. Build from walking into harder work gradually and adjust for age, conditioning, footing, and the individual horse.

Can I put horse liniment on myself in winter?

Use a human-labeled product for people. ReJüv™ is the human path; Draw It Out® Liniment remains the horse path.

Can ReJüv™ go under gloves or braces?

Let it dry first. Tight or heat-trapping materials can increase friction and skin sensitivity, so start conservatively and follow the label.

What is the best ReJüv™ size for the truck?

The 3oz is the smallest travel format. The 8oz EZ Squeeze provides more product with controlled dispensing.

General education only. Follow product labels and use veterinary or medical care when symptoms exceed routine self-care.
