Citraquin™ — FAQ

Barn-simple answers for fly season. How to apply Citraquin™, where it fits in your routine, and how to keep horses comfortable on hot, humid, or travel-heavy weeks.

Quick links

Citraquin™ basics

  • Purpose: day-to-day fly protection you can keep consistent through training, travel, and show weeks.
  • Where to use: coat, legs, mane/tail. For face/ears, apply to a cloth first and wipe on.
  • Avoid: eyes, nostrils, mouth, and open/deep wounds. Do not ingest. Wash hands after use.
  • Patch test: first-time users—try a small area on clean, dry skin and wait before full application.

How to apply (fast & clean)

  1. Start clean: quick groom to lift dust/sweat. After work, cool first (IceBath™), then let the coat dry.
  2. Spray distance: hold bottle ~6–8 inches from coat; spray against hair growth for coverage, then smooth with hair using a hand or soft cloth.
  3. Face/ears: spray onto a cloth and wipe carefully—keep clear of eyes/nostrils/mouth.
  4. Re-apply: as needed per label, and after heavy sweat, rain, or a bath.

Always follow the product label for specific directions, frequency, and cautions.

Situational playbook

Situation What to do Why it helps
Pre-ride (warm days) Light coat on body/legs after grooming. Wipe-on for face/ears. Discourages distraction so horses can focus in the alley/arena.
Post-work Cool with IceBath™ → dry → Citraquin™ → then apply leg support like DiO 16oz Gel if desired. Keeps the order clean and prevents product build-up.
Travel days Apply before loading; touch up on arrival. Wipe overspray off leather/tack. Helps through stops, new barns, and evening bugs.
Turnout Apply to dry coat; re-check after rain or sweat. Maintains coverage in changing weather.
Show weeks Keep the same cadence daily. Check your association’s rules; follow the label. Consistency beats intensity—and compliance avoids surprises.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Citraquin™ fit in my Draw It Out® routine?
After cooling and drying. Typical order: IceBath™ post-work → dry → Citraquin™ for fly protection → targeted support like CryoSpray® on hot spots and a thin coat of DiO 16oz Gel on legs/large muscles as your program prefers.
Can I use it on the face and ears?
Yes—apply to a cloth first, then wipe on carefully. Avoid eyes, nostrils, and mouth. Never spray directly at the face.
How often should I re-apply?
Follow the label. Re-apply after heavy sweat, a bath, rain, or when you notice coverage fading (flies landing again).
Will it interfere with wraps, boots, or gel?
Use Citraquin™ on the coat first, allow it to settle, then apply DiO 16oz Gel where needed. Keep product layers light so wraps/boots stay clean and dry.
Is this show-safe?
Use as directed and always follow your association’s current rules and barn/stabling policies. When in doubt, ask show management or your veterinarian.
Will it stain tack or blankets?
Spot-test fabrics if you’re concerned. Wipe off overspray from leather and allow the coat to dry before blanketing or tacking up.
Can I layer it with coat shines or sunscreen?
Yes—keep layers light and let each product set before the next. Test combinations on a small area first.
Storage & handling tips?
Store per label in a cool, dry place out of direct sun and freezing temps. Keep out of reach of children and animals. Do not ingest. Wash hands after use.
