Record when the change happens. One sign alone does not tell you whether the problem starts in the back, the tack, or somewhere else.
Poor saddle fit, pressure or skin irritation, muscle or ligament injury, spinal problems, and pain elsewhere can enter the assessment. Subtle hindlimb lameness and back pain can also overlap.
A veterinary examination and a qualified saddle-fit assessment answer different questions. Neither should be replaced by guessing from a reaction at the mounting block.

Use a stable mounting block and controlled technique. A horse that moves away or braces needs reassessment, not a faster attempt to get aboard.
Progress only while movement stays comfortable and coordinated. Do not lunge, circle, or ride until a warning sign disappears.
