How to Apply Liniment Under Standing Wraps (Step by Step)

Supplies

  • Clean towels or grooming cloth
  • Standing wrap set: quilts/cottons + stable bandages
  • Optional: pair of polos for light schooling support

Steps

  1. Clean & dry the legs. Brush away debris. If you rinsed earlier, make sure hair and skin are fully dry to avoid friction.
  2. Apply a thin, even layer of gel. Use your hand to spread from just below the knee/hock to the fetlock. Contact, not clumps—thin wins.
  3. Place quilts/cottons. Align evenly; no folds or wrinkles. Keep the back edge straight to protect tendons.
  4. Wrap with even pressure. Front to back, inside to outside. Two fingers should slide under the bandage at the cannon bone.
  5. Check & time it. Walk the horse a few steps and recheck tension. Follow the current label and the horse’s established wrap-timing plan. Remove sooner if the wrap slips or the horse becomes uncomfortable.
  6. Post-wrap care. If skin needs comfort or dryness is an issue, spot-apply Rapid Relief Restorative Cream on clean, dry skin.
