Horse Supplement Dealer Guide: Staff, Shelves, and Reorders

Good supplement sell-through starts with a clear conversation and a shelf customers can understand. Use this guide to give staff a repeatable process for Hydro-Lyte® with GastroCell® and Fluid Flex EQ® without turning a retail conversation into a diagnosis.

Give each product a clear role

  • Hydro-Lyte® with GastroCell®: begin with the customer’s electrolyte-support routine and review current label directions.
  • Fluid Flex EQ®: begin with the customer’s daily mobility-support routine and the current product information.
  • For both: ask what else the horse receives and refer questions about conditions, medication, or combining products to the appropriate professional.

A staff conversation that stays useful

“What are you looking to add to your horse’s routine? What is already in the feed room? Let’s check the current directions and serving information together.”

If the customer describes an unwell or injured horse, help them reach their veterinarian. Do not promise that a supplement will resolve the condition or replace treatment.

Set up the shelf

  • Group products by intended routine with readable labels facing forward.
  • Keep serving directions accessible instead of reducing the decision to container price.
  • Use current shelf materials and remove old availability or promotion notices.
  • Direct customers to the current listing when stock is unavailable; do not invent a delivery date.

Use actual sales to plan reorders

Track weekly units sold, usable stock on hand, committed stock, and confirmed inbound units. Estimate demand during the supplier’s current lead time, then add a buffer that fits your own sales variability. Reorder when usable available stock falls below that need. This is a planning method, not a guaranteed turnover forecast.

Review slow sellers with staff before increasing quantities: can they explain the role, find the directions, and answer basic ordering questions?
