Practical grooming routine

• Mane and tail: work slowly from the ends upward and avoid ripping through knots.
• Coat: remove sweat, dirt, urine, and dust before they build into rubs or dullness.
• Wash days: rinse thoroughly and dry according to weather.
• Gear contact: check girth, saddle pad, boot, blanket, and halter areas.
• Tail care: use protection only when hair is clean, dry, and appropriate for the horse.

Do not ignore skin red flags

• Open skin, discharge, odor, heat, swelling, pain, fever, lameness, or spreading lesions.
• Severe itching, sudden hair loss, hives, crusting, or recurring irritation.
• Skin that gets worse despite better hygiene and management.
